It can be a little difficult to clean all its nooks and crannies, but I just took a dish brush to all those blade-y and spring-y parts. The suction worked perfectly throughout several sessions, just make sure there's no debris or uneven surfaces. But those are far easier for me to process than apples, so I was fine with that (I just used a good paring knife and a sturdy pepper corer). Their skin is too delicate and they're too soft to stand up to this without the core prongs stripping the pear. Pears- if they're ripe, it won't work on them. We have an apple tree and a pear tree and this was incredibly helpful in prepping our surplus apples for the dehydrator. And it takes some adjusting and then some more fine tuning to get everything aligned the way you want it, but once that's done you can just go, go, go. Once it's on the other direction, you'll need to unscrew it if you want to flip it back. You can just untwist it and put it on the other direction. So yes, the handle comes backwards so it'll fit in a smaller box.
